Review of Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten (2007) by Mitchell W — 02 Dec 2008
Outstanding Doc from The Filth and The Fury director Julien Temple.
The film traces Joe Strummer from his rather posh beginnings to becoming the spokesman of his genaration to his early Death.
Temple interviews Friends and Fans who all give there view on Joe the Man and of Course The Clash.
It would have been easy for Temple just to focus soley on The Clash but he wisely looks at Joes Wilderness years after the band split and his short comeback.
All the interviwees are honest about Strummer(Filmaker Don Letts calls Strummer a coward over the sacking of Mick Jones from the Clash) and this helps the film to show that like any other legend Strummer had his flaws.
Stacked with tons of rare footage the film gives Strummer a fitting send off and boy do we need him today more than ever.
