Review of I Was Born, But... (1932) by Rick A — 21 Oct 2010
For one of the first Ozu films it dosen't need to be distinctly Ozu. However, I didn't like it, and not because of the visual style of Ozu that was lacking, it was the story and the kids! Okay, so the kids are typical of Ozu, but they were absolute jerks for no reason! Jerks! And ugly to boot! Plus it almost seemed to have a pointless narrative; nothing of any importance really happens.
And while it does, it doesn't matter. Meh! Plus the woman freaking out outside the classroom was distracting at the ending so maybe I missed something.
