Review of I Was Born, But... (1932) by Evan L — 24 Dec 2007
A silent masterpiece from Yasujiro Ozu. Although it represents Ozu in the early stages of his craft, it contains the distinctive Ozu elements and is overall a pleasure to sit through. Despite being a silent film, it is fresh in much the same way as A Story of Floating Weeds is - the story could very well have taken place yesterday.
As well as being a sensitive portrayal of childhood, it is also damn funny.
