Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by David L — 11 Jun 2008
Gibney is quickly becoming one of my favorite documentary directors with this, Taxi to the Darkside and Enron. In this case he takes aim at only one person this time, but the late-great Dr. Thompson came and saw and wrote about an entire doomed generation- better and crazier than anyone else- and it's a great ride. Some die-hard fans might say that they left out some stuff, but it's bound to happen, even in a two-hour running time. For me, also as a die-hard fan, it was as close to perfect a tribue-cum-profile one could ask for.
When the going gets weird, the weird get pro.
