Review of Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) by Morris N — 14 Aug 2016
Streep, Grant, and Helberg are stunning in this film. It is easily one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. I'm a musician, so watching a great actor (Streep) play a terrible singer (and she can sing, so it's doubly amazing) had me falling out as soon as she sang the first time.
Every time she sang it was hard not to bellow, but I was in a theatre. Musicians, don't miss this one. Others may or may not find it as funny. The movie doesn't settle for making fun of Jenkins.
It gives a nuanced portrait of a sympathetic character who truly loved music but couldn't sing at all. Very worthwhile.
