Review of El Norte (1983) by Jacob G — 27 Mar 2011
A look at the beginning to end stages of immigration from Guatemala to the US. While the main characters are neat--especially Rosita--it is really the various side characters that steal the show, whether it is the coyote who helps them over the border or the lady who takes Rosita under her wing in LA.
There are very few moments of peril in the film, but those where are present are very well shot. While the movie starts off slowly, once the siblings start their journey it moves at a brisk pace, even for its 2+ hour run time.
