The depth of nancy's emotional pain, and conscious desire to feel punished and hurt as a result; the depth, the gorge of misunderstanding and noncommunication between her and her husband; the (complex, passionate, brash) involvement with jason patric (what makes him kind of stunning here? is it the lack of information about him, the mystery?).
.. all these things make this watchable. if you want torture porn, you won't be satisfied; if you want to see and think about what "healing" means for different people, this is an interesting place to start.
