Review of Down by Law (1986) by Kirk F — 07 Oct 2007
For goodness sake, people, please stop characterizing indie movies as just "quirky".
Tom Waits is brilliant and compelling.
Roberto Benigni is Funny throughout.
John Lurie is interesting enough of an agitator to create social conflict.
One of the most amazing parts of his movie is the low amount of actual shots or cuts in each scene.
Many scenes only take one shot to get from one part of the story to the other, which is a testament to the great acting found in this film.
