Review of Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) by Adam O — 26 Jun 2007
It's easy to worry that recent British cinema is somehow immune to beauty and poetry, but thankfully one or two gems slip through. Terrance Davies uses subject matter you might expect from any number of British directors, but treats it in a style more akin to Ingmar Bergman or even Godard.
A wonderful exception that proves too many depressing rules about British cinema.
