Review of Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) by Eric R — 20 Oct 2008
This is an autobiographical story of Terrence Davies and it is told to perfection. The film dives head first into the mechanics of memory, showing us different viewpoints and stories that contradict each other at times.
Due to these conflicting memories, no character in the story is simplistic or one-dimensional. The shot compositions and cinemintography create this dream like landscape that is perfect for the material.
This film is a masterpiece fo'sho.
