Review of Berberian Sound Studio (2012) by Paolo R — 20 Sep 2012
Make Toby Jones an English fish out of water and he will give it his all.... and if you make that new environment a 1970s film sound recording space with fruit galore and various implements at your disposal, you know it's going to be interesting.
.. and make the film an Italian horror movie based on the catholic church's torture of witches.... well you are in for a sonic, visual, psychological treat. Yes it goes crazy half way... but that's just the perfect homage to the great experimental movies of the time, echoes of many influential movies here.
.. and you never do get to see the film that he's making the sounds for... unless you see those images in your head.
