Review of Bellflower (2011) by Ryan W — 28 Sep 2011
Bellflower-One of 2011 Best Pictures --"Bellflower" , which debuted at this year's Sundance Film Festival and was produced on a ultra-DIY budget of only 17k, is a explosive directorial debut by its Writer/Director/Star/editor Evan Godell.
This is a film that is wholly original in every aspect, its unpredictable in narrative flow, grungy and otherworldly in style and aesthetic., and impressionistic in feeling and experience. This is the type of picture that I had wish "Drive" was, a film that takes genre mechanics and elevates them in form, content, and structure.
Quite frankly this piece of DIY filmmaking deserves the same amount of attention as other explosive first-feature films such as Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" and Aronofsky's "PI" Grade A.
