Uneven, some promise but loses a bit towards the last half as it becames more of a conventional blockbuster…

Review of Heroes (1992)

Review of Mulholland Dr. (1999)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

I probably enjoyed this more than it's really worth, but it's a fantastic piece of film wankery from the master who walks the fine, fine line…

Review of The 6th Day (2000)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

Has it's own value for an Arnie film. However, Total Recall was his best sci-fi work…

Review of What Women Want (2000)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

Uses every gender cliche in the book and then some, but can be enjoyable…

Review of Basic Instinct (1992)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

It's a shock to discover that there's actually a plot underneath all that sex, though this is a pretty over-the-top film…

Review of Young Frankenstein (1974)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

Apparently Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks drastically re-edited this film to cut out a ton of jokes that fell flat…

Review of This Is England (1941)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

An amazing drama, gritty and powerful. Turgoose as the 12yo is perfect, without whom the film wouldn't have worked so well…

Review of The English Patient (1996)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

Overhyped, long and boring. Any real romanticism is sadly lacking in this very beautiful but otherwise pedestrian Mills and Boons style plotting…

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

Set design and costumes are fantastic, like a pulp sci-fi mag brought to the big screen. For such an old film, the plotline still manages to engage…

Review of A Beautiful Mind (2001)

By E L (691) on 28 Jul 2012

Blockbusting bio-pics like these leave me a little cold, having not a lot of warmth, and possessing the subtlety of a jackhammer…
