Apparently Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks drastically re-edited this film to cut out a ton of jokes that fell flat. Seems like quite a few still sneaked through. When Brooks is funny, he is hilarious. But when he's not, it's just painful.
This film contains a little too much of the latter.
