Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings Trilogy director) obtained a lot of motivation from this movie. He thought that not only should the battles be eventful, but the events leading to the battle should be important.
This movie is so suspensful, the quiet before the storm as Peter Jackson put it. This movie is easily one of the best war movie of the earlier times.
