Review of Zulu (1964) by Gareth R — 18 May 2008
Bit hard to review, this, as really famous films often are. The story of Rorke's Drift is patiently told (sometimes a bit too patient) with some truly memorable moments, such as the sound of approaching Zulus.
The characters are well drawn and Michael Caine's debut film performance - reason enough to watch Zulu - is decent. Somehow it feels churlish to pick on it, since it's about historical events.
Memorable music, well-shot (if weirdly bloodless) battles - a decent, tense and quite moving war film. Just not one I'm in a rush to see again.
