Review of Zootopia (2016) by Mauricio G — 29 Oct 2016
Just finished watching Zootopia. Surprising brilliant! Packed with all kinds of hidden messages and clever nuances.
It draws parallels of a fictional animal world with the our actual human world. Truth is, it's very timely reminiscent of our world in the last year or so. A bunny who think she can be anything (in this case representing all women, or minorities) yet everyone tells her she can't. Of course she does but has the be THE BEST to be taken seriously.
Humans have always discriminated. Told groups of people "you're not good enough, so don't bother". The top of the "food chain" barely performs above par. But if an outsider wants to join the club, they have to prove themselves above and beyond any current limit. Look at Jackie Robinson (first black baseball player), Tiger woods, Alejandro González Iñárritu (best director, twice) and now Hillary Clinton first, woman to hopefully be US President. Say what you will about that woman. But she doesn't give up, even Trump admitted to that.
Call me a male feminist, but it's more than that. We need to open our minds and stop self imposing limits. I know, because I do it to myself every day. Maybe I'm inspired for running my third Half Marathon today. But scew it, I've decided I'm now training for the whole thing. We are stronger than we realize. And we don't need AHoles telling us we're the problem or the enemy.
So anyway, watch the movie. It has plenty of other messages besides this one. Watch it for yourself and use the one that motivates you the most.
