Review of Zootopia (2016) by Gert777 — 05 Mar 2016
I did not expect a Disney movie to address a topic as relevant as discrimination, but Zootopia does so successfully, without being overly blunt or serious. There are plenty of laughs for younger and older viewers alike, and the plot moves along at an acceptable pace.
There are plot holes of course, and movie coincidences that drive the story forward. There are plenty of cliches, and if you are an experienced moviegoer, you probably will be able to predict everything that is going to happen.
However, the movie is driven by characters, with strong voice performances from Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. The characters are entertaining and charming, and your desire to follow their journey distracts you from some of the predictability.
Additionally, the concept is fantastic. One of the better movies I have seen this year. Of course, this comes from the perspective of a lifelong Disney fan, and anthropomorphic animals are Disney's heart and soul.
If you don't like Disney, you certainly won't like this movie.
