Review of Zoolander (2001) by Jon C — 13 Feb 2016
The hit movie that made Ben Stiller a star.
A short skit is made into a very funny and very warm film about the world of fashion.
Modeling is a tough job particularly for male models Derek Zoolander and Hansel whom have been rivals since their careers took flight and yet don't have the brightest intellect.
Meanwhile a sinister plan to assassinate a political leader is underway.
Ben Stiller was born to play this role of a successful yet dimwitted male model and Owen Wilson is the perfect antagonist to bounce off of.
Will Ferrell is playfully over-the-top, too running his own fashion empire.
And Christine Taylor is a dedicated journalist who has her own beef with the industry as it turns out.
And we have a entire library of celebrity cameos from Cuba Gooding, Jr., Donald Trump, Natalie Portman, Christian Slater, David Bowie, Fabio, Gwen Stefani, Vince Vaughn, John Voight, Billy Zane, Winona Ryder, Paris Hilton, Stephen Dorf, Gary Shandling.
Even David Duchovny makes a hilarious appearance filling in the blanks of a shady model conspiracy.
Like I said the movie offers adorable doses of humor but not forgetting the compassionate side of things.
There is more to life than just looking good and even Zoolander knows this.
Still very big in today's pop culture.
