Review of Zoolander 2 (2016) by Jason C — 14 Feb 2016
Zoolander 2 is a tame, non-threatening sequel to the unique film that hit theaters oh so many years ago. The main characters are exactly the same, most of the jokes are recycled and there isn't much that's original about No. 2. But if you liked the characters in Zoolander, then part 2 is a safe movie to watch that will bring back a nostalgia in those who were already at least 15 years old or so when the original was released.
Unlike the first, where it was fun and the characters were entertaining, Zoolander 2 has a few who got plenty irritating. I was so happy when Don Atari's scenes were over, and Zoolander's son could have been so much more funny. Even a small appearance by the greatest actor in the history of ever (the Malk) didn't provide more than a small spark.
The story was OK and brought the characters back to life for me. It missed too many opportunities to be funny. An R rating maybe wouldn't have made it more money, but it would have opened more doors. My money says there won't be a part 3.
Anyone who wanted to see Zoolander 2 the moment it was announced will still enjoy this sequel. You could also wait to rent it and watch the original and this one back-to-back.
