Review of Zoolander 2 (2016) by Matthew F. J — 18 Feb 2016
The second chapter of the never dull adventures of Derek Zealander the creator of "Blue Steel" is finally arriving with a 15 years gap since we first saw the iconic model and his acolyte Hansel take the modeling world by storm and shake it to it's core.
Well the second film is quite fun at times, there are here and there a few good jokes and some ideas are nicely introduced but overall this sequel feels a little pushy, lame at times and yes a little outdated for its time.
What worked in the early 2000's isn't really working anymore today. Both lead actors have aged and aren't as credible in their parts as they used to be. Sure the cameos are flowing from every corners and the direction of Ben Stiller is still filled with a lot of passion and self derision but somehow it's not working as well this time.
The characters have grown, the public has too and what should definitely have remained an iconic and cult little comedy should not have been awaken for a second serving that does't taste as fresh nor fun as the original dish.
Not a bad film, simply unnecessary.
