Review of Zoolander 2 (2016) by Daniel C — 05 Mar 2016
Derek & Hansel come to Rome to find Derek Jr and unravel a mystery.
The sequel we probably didn't need but we got anyway, Derek and Hansel are brought back from retirement to accept their future as fathers, find Derek Jr and stop a strange plot where celebrities are being assassinated.
I still laughed but the plot gets confusing - though I'm not sure it's supposed to be analysed in any serious fashion, this is a Zoolander film after all. Does it hold up to the original? Probably not and the ridiculousness seems to be cranked up past 11 but that's got nothing on the number of cameos in the film, which is probably the film's main drawcard. You're so busy pointing out the celebrity you don't have long enough to follow what little plot there is.
There's a mix of funny, stupid and ridiculous and it seems a lot of people are more disappointed than anything. I didn't mind the film for what it was and found it at least enjoyable.
