Review of Zoolander 2 (2016) by Maxx D — 21 May 2016
Zoolander No 2 is one of those films you quite often hear about being shopped around to get made for quite some time after the success of the original film, and then somehow many years later finally sees the light of the day only to realize that it hit the silver screen too late after its best before date since a lot of the humour and delivery is behind the times, and also seem to loose the tone of the piece that made it great in the first place by turning the thrust moreso into the international investigation/Davinci Code realm rather than sticking as a farce that made it fun in the first place.
Closest thing I can compare it too is the fact it plays like Cars 2 in some ways, dumping it in ridiculous fish out of water context with more ackward characters and devices we don't care about, in this case Zoolanders son being a reincarnation of Steve, the most perfect being from the Garden of Eden, and various supposed terrorists (aka Mugatu) trying to capture him to take him out and steal the power for themselves.
Grown inducing, insensitive, and the throw against the wall techniques to see what sticks aren't going to save this one, seems like Ben Stiller might have made his version of the Love Guru as his Waterloo and might not be able to recover on this one.
Blergh.
