Review of Zoolander 2 (2016) by Harper C — 24 Jul 2016
I need to stop hoping that long awaited sequels to classic comedy films are going to at the very least equal the first. They will never beat them after all, no one is naive enough to think that.
Much like Anchorman 2, 2oolander, Zoolander 2, or whatever you want to call it quite frankly isn't up to the comedic heights reached by the first film. Coming probably ten years too late, and I think Ben Stiller and Co know it too. That isn't to say there aren't some delightfully absurd and silly moments, but too many jokes are re used from the first, and simply don't feel nostalgic enough to warrant inclusion.
I'd imagine again like Anchorman 2 this will require more than one watch to really click, as taken on its own merits Zoolander 2 is still fairly amusing. The celebrity cameos are again really well done, and Mugatu's prison scene is brilliant. Gains a point also as let's face it, seeing Derek, Hansel, and blue steel on screen again is still a treat.
