Review of Zoolander 2 (2016) by Jaime L — 17 Sep 2016
Review:
This movie was awful! The jokes were not funny at all, and the storyline was completely ridiculous. Audiences loved the first movie, for its originality and amusing jokes but this movie really let the franchise down, like a lot of sequels do. With such a huge cast, with some amazing cameos, the whole project was huge in scale, but low in entertainment and I'm sure that the die hard Zoolander fans will be very disappointed with this second outing. I know that I have said this time and time again but do these directors actually watch there movies before they release them, because I honestly can't find anything positive to say about this film. Will Ferrell (Jacobim Mugatu) was slightly funny and the chemistry between Derek (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson), was believable, which wasn't surprising because they have made so many movies together. Penelope Cruz (Valentina Valencia), was quite good as the agent but the awful script made there roles seem more silly, than funny. Anyway, I won't go on about how bad this movie is, because you really need to watch it to know how disconnected it is from the first movie, which is a shame because I still find some of the original scenes quite funny. Basically, it's just another case of people having to leave the original alone. Disappointing!
Round-Up:
After a disappointing profit at the box office, I'm honestly surprised that it didn't make a lose, because the plot was really bad. The movie was directed by Ben Stiller, who done a brilliant job with the original Zoolander, Tropic Thunder and the Cable Guy but he made a right mess of this film. He also directed Reality Bites in 1994, with Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke, and the Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which was also a weird movie, so his movie making skills haven't been that great of late. If he wants to bring Zoolander back to the big screen, he has to bring back the famous dance-offs and the funny jokes which made it seem like all models were dumb. Anyway, he done all the hard work by creating these brilliant characters but he failed to entertain with the sequel.
Budget: $50million.
Worldwide Gross: $56million.
I recommend this movie to people who are into their comedies, starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Kiefer Sutherland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Justin Bieber, Jon Daly, Christine Taylor, Justin Theroux, Milla Jovovich, Billy Zane, Andy Dick, Naomi Campbell, Willie Nelson, Katy Perry, Alexander Skarsgard, M.C. Hammer, John Malkovich and Susan Sarandon. 2/10.
