Review of Zookeeper (2011) by Richard T — 25 Mar 2012
My brother, who likes poop jokes, recommended this for our family. So in that regard, it was a hit. But more than that, it exceeded my expectations, born of the truly awful trailers I saw last year when it was in the theaters.
There are, indeed and to all our amusement, poop jokes as well as sexual innuendo. And there is Kevin James, doing some great physical comedy. There's also some great and emotional relationships all around, some genuine absurd and goofy moments -- and Rosario Dawson along with a fine cast, all of whom have some good moments.
Unfortunately, it's also a movie that lived a good life after about 70 or 80 minutes, but puffed up its pudding cup to an hour and a half anyway to throw in some more schtick. My kids liked it, I have a couple of good lines to use with students, and I left feeling good if a little queasy from too much sugar.
