Review of Zodiac (2007) by Philip S — 28 Sep 2012
A fascinating film from the ever-interesting David Fincher. This is a film for those who have ever lost themselves in the intellectual pusuit of solving a puzzle or completing a long-term research project.
The kind of pursuit in which friends, family, and even basic survival needs come in second to the quest to know the solution. Those expecting a reprise of Fincher's far more macabre serial-killer film Seven won't find it here.
But what they will find is a story of two parallel homicide investigations--one by the paid professionals, and one by the amateur whom almost no one takes seriously at first. Of course, guess who finds the most likely solution to the years-long puzzle? The film closely follows Robert Graysmith's book on the officially unsolved Zodiac murders in California.
Highly recommended.
