Review of Zodiac (2007) by Erin D — 06 Jun 2013
Zodiac is a terrific film. Another film that proves that Fincher is a talented director. The film focuses on the Zodiac murders surrounding California, while focusing on a young cartoonist (Jake Gyllenhaal) who tries to solve the case and figure out the identity of the Zodiac killer; a detective (Mark Ruffalo) who is assigned to investigate the case; and finally a journalist (Robert Downey Jr.
, in a scene stealing performance) who write an offensive news story on the killer and is thus threatened. Fincher's attention to detail is perfect, while the film is also not a gore infested slasher film.
The film focuses more on the toll of the murders that infect the citizens of California, as well as the time of the case and the interest that it brings to Gyllenhaal's character. The film also plays out like a journalistic piece of work, with James Vanderbilt's screenplay being perfectly written, while the film also plays out like a police procedural.
The film is well put together, with a talented cast and works perfectly.
