Review of Ziegfeld Girl (1941) by Tim C — 20 Nov 2009
I saw this the other day on TCM and I thought it was a great backstage musical story from the 40s that was just fabulous! It is an interesting look at how fame changes things for someone, and not for the better.
Still, it is nice to see Judy Garland sing and act, Lana Turner trying decide between glamor and squalor (not to mention rick millionaire or Jimmy Stewart), and Hedy Lamarr who is in between fame and her concerning husband.
Ziegfeld is never seen or shown, and the numbers are fabulous and Ziegfeldian, but I thought he should have shown his face if not booked William Powell asap!
