Review of Ziegfeld Girl (1941) by James H — 06 Nov 2009
I just watched this and it was actually really good. Now Jimmy Stewart may not have been the best choice for this role toward the end who would you prefer sent you roses wrapped in butcher paper and fed you soup? (And he wouldn't return to films until after WWII with Wonderful Life) Lana Turner is very good-apparently this was her big star turn and I enjoyed it a lot.
Judy is fabulous of course-the surprise would be if she sucked. She does have to wear some crazy costumes though. Hedy Lamarr was meh for me-I think sometimes she's really beautiful but often she's just there.
I did like her romance with the violinist though. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of any of those four or to someone who appreciates musicals.
