Review of Zeitgeist: The Movie (2007) by Tim J — 28 Jul 2013
Take everything with a grain of salt, if not a 10-lb bag of it. This movie seems to have a few provocative facts and observations, from which it makes huge leaps into questionable claims and wild conjecture.
I found the first part, about the similarities between many religions and their savior figures, the most interesting, and I intend to research some of it further. I gather that others have already exposed the numerous falsehoods in the Zeitgeist list of claims.
The author seems to play fast and loose with facts. So there's a germ of truth here and there, and I do agree there are some players on the world stage who need more scrutiny and questioning, but the extremes of conspiracy theory and New World Order strike me as more paranoid than perceptive.
Sure, there are many powerful people and groups operating today, some in deep shadow, but I don't think they are as all-powerful as Zeitgeist would have us believe. As for the film's production values, they're pretty poor.
The first few minutes are almost insufferable, with a mix of blank screen and psychedelic visuals signifying nothing. The director doesn't seem to have much style, just a heavy hand and sloppy sense of visual drama, which sort of fits with the sloppy logic in the movie's central thesis.
The issues raised here deserve a better exposition.
