Review of Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008) by Justin M — 16 Apr 2012

I can say this much. My FAVORITE FILM of 2008.. full stop. Kevin Smith was unfairly accused of poaching the Apatow crew for this flick.. but I look at it this way that crew was only working the way Smith paved.

BUT the real revelation here is Elizabeth Banks who gives a fantastically HILARIOUS performance as Miri. while also showing her adeptness at physical comedy AND a very serious and sweetly romantic side. This film.. just wow.. the casting was spot on.. from the word GO. I think this film was criminally overlooked in theaters and can only hope to see it get some justice on video, I know my theater did NOT carry the film.. which is a real shame. WARNING: This film truly does push the R- rating to its very very far out extreme in terms of male nudity, quite shocking for a Kevin Smith movie.. whom himself has said that he is uncomfortable shooting nudity after he did the film Mallrats. BUT whoa.. its on display here as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and all its BRAVERY, as it was said, has NOTHING on this film. In terms of comedy.. or.. just all out punch to the gut. People who said Kevin Smith could never exist without Jay and Silent Bob should CHOKE on this.. not for sensitive viewers but everyone else sit back and enjoy.
