Review of Zabriskie Point (1970) by Simon M — 19 Mar 2008
It's an interesting and perplexing movie about the hangover from the 1968 revolts. Antonioni depicts consumerism and capitalism in a critical light, but also by the film's climax (or perhaps anti-climax) seems to allude to the inherent problems that lie in the counter culture that supposedly stand in opposition to consumerism.
In its stronger moments, the movie is a thought-provoking take not only on the contradictions and dysfunctions of capitalism, but also the misplaced optimism, misguided opportunism and philosophical naiveté of many radical attempts to overthrow it.
Well worth a look (if you can find it anywhere).
