Review of Z for Zachariah (2015) by Kj P — 29 Aug 2015
Disaster hits. The world is dying out. There are only a few remaining survivors. They must learn to live with each other, and possibly even blossom love for one another. Now picture that cliched story, but start the film after those events.
Intrigued yet? "Z for Zachariah" is a smart, beautifully shot end-of-the-world drama, that does not focus on that aspect. Taking place up in the mountains in a cabin home, this film follows 3 people as they slowly begin to find each other, forming bonds and working together to help each other stay alive.
Margot Robbie, Chiwitel Ejiofor, and Chris Pine are all fantastic here, making for great scenes whenever they are all together. With many though-provoking scenes, elements that will work both for believers and non-believers of the catholic faith, and an old story that has been flipped on it's head, "Z for Zachariah" is a truly remarkable piece of film that is definitely too far under the radar.
This is a wonderful film that is as easy to watch as it is terrific. From beginning to end, it had me immersed in it's characters, setting, and writing. Everything about this picture screams class.
The quiet slow tone of the film is what made it so incredible, as each and every time a character moment passes, it feels like no time has passed by at all. I was immersed in every scene. A Fantastic film that I highly recommend.
One of the best films I have seen in all of 2015.
