Review of Z for Zachariah (2015) by Amanda C — 19 Oct 2015
Margot Robbie proves she's more than a pretty face, Chiwetel Ejiofor is excellent as always and Chris Pine is mostly bearable, but Z for Zachariah mostly misses the mark. It starts as a beautiful story of human survival in the face of mass extinction, but quickly degrades into an unnecessary love triangle.
Maybe the reality is that pettiness wins the day when faced with extinction, but to place the overused story of two men fighting over a woman in the middle of the end of humanity makes it seem cheap. There were so many other roads to tread, especially with the exceptional performances from Robbie and Ejiofor, that would have meant something.
Instead we get to be reminded that even at the end of the world, nothing matters more than who gets the girl.
