Review of Z (1969) by Joe S — 25 Sep 2009
If you see only one piece of cinema from Greek filmmaker Costa-Gavras, make it this incredible thriller. Based on true events in his native Greece, Gavras and a cast of mostly French actors (the best being Jean-Louis Trintignant) tell the story of an assassination and a cover-up in an unnamed country.
Like Gillo Pontecorvo's Battle of Algiers, it's raw and its incredibly moving.
