Review of Z (1969) by Trevor C — 23 Jun 2010
Unlike most assassination conspiracies where everything seems to have been thought through extremely carefully (thank you Hollywood...), this one shows how it often is the creation of a flawed group of average men that rank high within the institution and back eachother up.
The audience, from the get go, is in on the government and army implication so don't expect a movie where you have to figure out the guilty party. Rather, it shows you the challenges and complexity of exposing such an intricated plot. The last 5 minutes should remind you how close to reality this depiction really is.
A quite slow movie I admit that only picked up about halfway through; even the crucial ending unfolds about 15 minutes before it ends. Winner of 2 oscars and based on the true story of the murder of Lambrakis, a prominent leftist and peace activist, by the Greek government.
I feel this is a movie that should be seen and none of you, flixster friends, has seen it yet. Simply for the history lesson it has given me, I do not regret those 2 hours.
