Review of Yuva (2004) by Radhika N — 09 Aug 2007
This was a good movie by Bollywood's standards. I suppose Mani Ratnam does have to throw in the song and dances and stretch it to the 3 hour format because that is what is expected of a Bollywood film but come on, this was not especially good movie-making per se, only in comparison to most of the other irrelevant movies that continue to dominate the Indian film industry.
The love story is mandatory. The singing and dancing. And the other trend that I strongly dislike- all of the 6 main actors are progenies of Bollywood insiders. Ajay Devgan is the only one whose father or mother was not a famous actor.
What happened to the days of really charismatic and new actors? Admittedly, some of the progeny are talented but most are not talented and not pleasant to look at either. I think I will try and get the Tamil version as Emil suggests.
