This film is a guilty pleasure. Not a guilty pleasure in the way a film like Armageddon is, this isn't the kind of film I can say "yeah it's stupid but it's so COOL!". The only way I can defend this movie is by saying it's cute.
Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are cute. The film has cute compositions and colors in New York and the story is sweet and entertaining. The whole AOL aspect is a bit dated and forced, but once the film gets rolling it sweeps you away with its sweetness.
Yes, I own this film, and I think the blurb from USA Today in the cover pretty much sums it up: "Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan should win a nobel prize for chemistry".
