Review of You've Got Mail (1998) by Caleb C — 02 Jan 2012
A more personal like this one is. One of the many romantic comedies I grew up with and partly had something to do with who I am, sorta, but in a way that doesn't really relate to the film itself at all.
I had previously had just the 5 star rating here simply stating that this is a classic in romantic comedies. I couldn't really say the same now after just watching this for the 11th time at least over the course of my life.
Watching it fresh now did make me cringe in parts and make me realize how much of a film nob I've become, noitcing all the flaws within. That being said, in the end of watching this, it still brings me to tears and breaks my heart that life doesn't actually contain romance like this.
It's all bull-shit, but it's beautiful none the less and is predictable but overall about as charming as films of these kind come from the 90's. It's an exploration in the romance we wish were possible and may never have.
It's funny, and feel good if you can except the fantasy of it all.
