Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by Mark H — 20 Dec 2007
The film is complex, and needs to be seen a couple of times or thought about.
One has to forget the incidentals detail, and concentrate on the important things.
People are interested in relationships, not sci-fiction; they fear death, and they fear missing out on things. They are insecure in a world of complexity in which 16 years of education has given them the "ability" to click on some buttons on gizmos. Paleolithic savages understood as much about their world as we do now except we have more gizmos (manna rains from the sky!).
He left her because he loved her and not because he did not.
What else would young people care about except love, old age, and death?
That is what viewers should be concentrating on. The old think about what they missed; the young think about what they could miss.
