Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by Melody S — 16 Mar 2008
As I left to see this film I was told that critics declared it to be "a mess." I suppose that this might have tainted my critical perspective. I tried to remain open minded and in the end I felt that it was more of a wandering than a mess.
Coppola appears to be soul searching in what will perhaps become a cult film in his vast collection of exceptional film vitae. It's a existential journey that wanders about. Be prepared to feel a bit overwhelmed when it's over.
It demands contemplation and conversation in an old dark cafe or pub.
