Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by Norma F — 13 Jul 2008
It looks like a million bucks, it's wonderful, visually amazing. coppola, what with dracula and now this one, is going for visuals that bend the mind and really make you realize how special cinema is.
the one thing that movies have that even books can't touch is imagery, so he takes this challenge and knocks it out of the park. but with that said, it's unforgivably boring and it's put together without any sense of direction or force pushing it towards the ending.
its almost like coppola made a 4 hours film and realized he had to cut it into 2 hours so that it could be shown in theaters. of course, knowing coppola, he did make a 4-5 hour movie and cut it down. but in the end, the product is sloppy in narrative purpose but brilliant in looks.
its' like a Porche with no engine.
