Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by Ana B — 04 Aug 2008
Coppola's much awaited project after a ten-year-silence.
I thought it was a homage to language by large, to the roots of it and our need to use it to communicate or even exist.
Inspired by a Romanian novel, the movie seemed very ambitious in its assumption that moving from era to era with voice over, heavy make up transformations and flashbacks would ease the audience's journey of following the events. It did not seem so to me.
Still, the unusual story, the fact that there are so few movies acknowledging the history of human language and its various stages, Youth Without Youth is worthwhile viewing for any film enthusiast.
