Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by Rahul O — 16 Sep 2008
It bears the stamp of a certain gentleman named Francis Ford Coppola. But its hard to believe that this excessive drab indulgence is directed by the wizard behind 'The Godfather.'.
You could easily doze off in the first 60 odd minutes of the movie but having survived the super slow and dull narrative you are in for decent culmination of events as it really redeems itself from being a disaster.
The story is adapted from a romanian novel set in Romania about a man who struck by lightening becomes young and strives to achieve his life's work by going back in time and reliving/re-creating his past experiences. Is it for real or just a mirage? Thats for you to decide. He is constantly addressed to as very young when at best Tim Roth can pass off as a man in his mid 40s. It is the female lead - Alexadra Maria who brings life into the movie backed up by some fine cinematography.
Not a movie for pop-corn viewing. You won't be missing any brilliant endeavor if you give this a skip. Watch it only if you have to, maybe then you won't be disappointed. And yeah do keep some hot coffee handy before it starts!
