Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by Lorenzo V — 20 Sep 2008
Tim Roth is marvelous at all ages in this surprisingly strong story about one man's desire for romance at the end of a life overshadowed by lonliness. Set in the midst of Europe during the War, this piece looks very impressive.
It struggles at picking out the best parts of the story and focusing on them, rather than this script, which gets a little tangled on itself. This felt alot like The Fountain to me, only slightly better cinematography muddled and a lot worse editing.
Why it chooses to add elements that aren't important to the central point of the film, and the way the story is told hold back what could have been a great notch on Coppola's already impressive resume.
