Review of Youth Without Youth (2007) by David F — 08 Oct 2008
It took me three viewings to finally watch this film in it's entirety. Coppola's beautiful-looking film lulled me to sleep. I give him credit for self-financing something so unique and risky after his decade-long absentia but for the most part I was left lost.
I found no problem at all with the talent here. Roth is great but Lara was particulary amazing. I'm not cancelling this out as pretencious drivel form a master aueture though. Maybe a viewing with commentary might help my bewildered response.
I can't say that I'm eager to give it a try anytime soon. My appreciation of the excellent filmmaking though is just that: appreciation.
