Review of Youth in Revolt (2009) by Kallum S — 04 Nov 2011
Calling this film a rom-com is incorrect. Yes, there is romance and comedy, but calling it a rom-com makes it seem sappy and dull (like most rom-coms). Cera plays Twisp like he was born to play him. Awkward, shy, the typical nerdy teenager of his generation (Just like myself).
He also pulls of his darker side excellently. In my opinion, Cera is a great actor. People give him slack for playing the same character in every film. I disagree. Yes, he does play similar characters, but thats what he is good at.
To me, this movie made me think about what lengths I would go to for something in life. Not only was it hilarious, it also has a lot of heart, (somewhere) and it deserves recognition. Some people wont get it, but thats because its a teen film.
Great movie, watch and you will very much enjoy it to the end.
