Review of Youth (2015) by Amanda C — 04 Jun 2016
Youth is a beautifully realized work on aging and legacy. It is also a meditation on the value of art, especially art that has become popular, and the burden that places on the artist to maintain that level.
There is a melancholy joy to the film that respects the past and both fears and admires the future. It's the best thing Michael Caine has made in years, Rachel Weisz is wonderful as usual, Paul Dano is solid and creepy and Jane Fonda is so spectacular that she fully deserves her Golden Globe nomination, even if she only has one scene and twenty minutes of screen time.
