Review of Yours, Mine & Ours (2005) by Eliza Cabassoun — 11 Apr 2010
I never thought I would see Dennis Quaid in a kids' movie, but then I saw that he was in the Parent Trap as well. What should you expect from this movie? Everything that you could possibly think of just by watching a preview for it.
Oh no, there's a military man with a bunch of kids, and he's strict. There's an woman who's an artist who has a bunch of kids, and she likes free expression and no rules. They fall in love, but the kids are from two different worlds.
What kind of shenanigans could they possibly get into?! Well, they do get into a lot of shenanigans, as you would expect. After a while, though, they realize that they need to work together to split up mom and dad.
Never heard of something like that before, have you? Off the top of my head, I can think of Rugrats in Paris as an example of where this happens. Anyway, I know it's just a kids' movie, but you would think the older kids would know better, especially the ones from the military family.
Either way, (SPOILERS) they eventually break up mom and dad. You saw it coming. What do you think will happen next? Obviously they're going to get mom and dad back together, realizing their mistakes and how much they actually like each other.
In the end, this is just a kids movie. Adults aren't going to find much here for them, like they would in a Shrek movie or any of Pixar's movies. The jokes are catered to kids and so is the story.
It's exactly like Cheaper by the Dozen, except it might be funnier. I'm not sure; I don't know how many times I forced a chuckle out while watching either movie.
